HMS Audacious. Royal naval battleship of the King George V Class, HMS Audacious was built by Camell Laird, laid down 23rd March 1911, launched 14th September 1912, and commissioned into the Royal Navy 15th October 1913. On the 27th October 1914, off the coast of Northern Ireland, HMS Audacious struck a mine and after unsuccessful salvage attempts, HMS Audacious sank the following day. Displacement: 23,400 Speed: 21.0 knots Compliment: 870 and up to 1,110 in 1916 Armament: Ten 13.5-inch guns in pairs and sixteen 4 -inch guns (twelve 4-inch guns after 1917). Two 3 inch Anti Aircraft Gun replaced with 4-inch anti aircraft gun from 1917. |
