Courbet Class Central Battery Ships. French Central Battery Ships of the Courbet Class of the late 1870's, early 1880's, comprising Courbet and Devastation.. The Courbet Class were the largest central battery ships ever built. They resembled the Redoubtable although being over 1,000 tons heavier. The Courbet was original to be named Foudroyant. Displacement: 10,450 tons, speed: 15 Knots Compliment: 689 Armament: COURBET: Four 13.4-inch 21 calibre M1881, main guns, with Four 10.8 inch, 20 calibre Model 1875 guns, Six 5.5 inch Model 1881 guns and Twelve 1 Pdr revolvers, and Five 14 inch Topedo Tubes, DEVASTATION: Four 13.4-inch 18 calibre M1875, main guns, with Four 10.8 inch, 20 calibre Model 1870 guns, Six 5.5 inch Model 1870 guns and Eight 1 Pdr revolvers, and Five 14 inch Topedo Tubes, |
