Australian naval cruiser HMAS Sydney (ex-Phaeton) built by Swan Hunter for the Australian Navy. She was sunk in action with German surface raider Kormoran on 19th November 1941. |
Specifications for the World War Two HMAS Sydney Built by Swan Hunter and Launched 22nd September 1934.
Displacement: 7,105 tons Speed: 32.5kt Complement: 550 Armament: Eight 6 inch guns in pairs. Eight 4 inch anti-aircraft guns in pairs and twelve 0.5 inch machine guns in fours. Eight 21 inch torpedo tubes in pairs and 1 aircraft. HMAS Sydney was sunk in the action with the German Commerce Raider Kormoran. Sydney's A and B turrets were put out of action by a torpedo Hit and was hit by several 5.9 inch shells she was ;last seen burning furiously. |
