SMS Hela, German Aviso, launched 1895. Photographs and history of the German Aviso Hela. SMS Hela built at Wesser, at Bremen. Launched 28th March 1895, commissioned into the German Navy 1896. Served on colonial station 1900 - 1901 and in 1910 became a fleet tender. At the outbreak of World war One, Hela became a flotilla patrol boat. Soon after, on the 13th September 1914, was sunk in the North Sea by the British submarine E9 with the loss of two crew. | |||

The Armoured Cruiser Hela was a frequent escort to the Hohnzollern. She had a displacement of 2,000 tons, her heaviest gun was a 3.4 in and her speed was 20.5 knots. |
