Kiel

Kiel Kaiserliche Werft, (Imperial Shipyard. ) the first Iron Clad built at Kiel was in 1877 with the construction of Friedrich der Grosse. this was soon followed by other major warships the Falke in 1891, Hilderbrand in 1893, Hagen in 1894 Aegir in 1896 and the heavily armoured cruisers. Furst Bismarck in 1897, Prinz Heinrich in 1900, Prinze Adalbert ijn1 903, Roon in 1905 and Blucher in 1909/ and in 1912 the battleship Kaiser was built/ leading upto to World war One Kiel became the headquarters to the Imperial German navy.   Further construction continued and the building of many cruisers including Konigsburg and Nurnburg, Augsburg and in 1914 the Grandenz.  After the war. In 1919 the Dockyard was privatized and six years later was sold to Deutsche Werke AG of Berlin, who also owned the Torpedo factory of Friedrichsorter.  and continued building warships throughout the 1903's and early 1940's .   Kiel was the headquarters for the German navy including the U-boat Division. throughout world war two.  Kiel is also the home of the German naval academy which was started in 1872  and continued until the end of world war two. except for the years 1926 to 1931 when it was moved to Berlin.  Also at Kiel is the German naval monument dedicated to the German Naval seamen lost during the world war one.
