County Class Guided Missile Destroyers, HMS Devonshire, Hampshire, London, Kent, Fife, Glamorgan, Antrim and HMS Norfolk. These large destroyers laid down between 1959 and 1966, and commissioned into the Royal Navy between 1962 and 1970. Two of the County Class Guided Missile Destroyers served in the Falklands Campaign. Displacement: 6,200 tons and fully loaded 6800 Tons. Speeds and Range: Top Speed 30 Knots, and a range of 3,500 miles at 28 knots.. Armament: Four 4.5-inch 45 MK6's in Two Pairs, One Seaslug (surface to Air Missile and Two Seacats GW21. Tow 20mm MG and one Helicopter. Compliment: 440 to 471 D12 HMS Kent. Built by Harland and Wolf, and launched on the 27th September 1961 completed on the 15th August 1963. Actively served with the Royal Navy until April 1980 when it was used for Harbour training. |
