Converted 4th Rate sailing Frigates HMS Arethusa, HMS Constance, HMS Octavia, HMS Sutlej. These conversions were planned as a response to the French naval programme of 1860 which posed a threat to the Royal Navy's Supremacy at Sea.  All four ships were converted at Pembroke Dockyard being re launched and completed in 1860 to 1862.
