Crew of HMS Iris. The reverse of the postcard on which this image was printed stated : "Survivors of HM Minesweeper Iris,15th October 1918". we think this refers to the auxiliary converted ferry from Liverpool, Royal Iris II, which was used in the Zeebrugge Raid of April 1918, although this ship returned unscathed. The grandfather in law, William Barton, of the contributor was among the 'survivors'. |
